First Book Of The Sabbatical

'When I were a lad' .... how many times have you heard that? But with all seriousness as a young person I was extremely impressed by the fact Frank Field our local MP took the time to visit our church youth group in the 1980's. We were a bunch of teens who weren't very politically motivated but who were growing up in 1980s Merseyside as it found the principles of Margaret Thatcher abborant and was prepared to say so.

In this book Frank Field tells of how his faith has guided and directed his political understanding and his passion to be a spokesperson for the poor and marginalized.

It's an easy read although he tries to communicate some deep ideas in its 191 pages.

He speaks of the highs and lows of his political life and comes across as particularly bitter about the Corbyn years. A man of principle who was always prepared to speak his mind rather than tow the party line Frank Field paints a picture of what a politician should be ..... concerned for the needs of those struggling, principled, honest and a person of integrity. Oh how we could do with a few more Frank Fields in Parliament today!
