Friends

One of the great things about visiting the church overseas is that you get to meet all kinds of interesting characters and build friendships with people you may not necessarily meet in the routine of your daily work/life.

You will have gathered I'm not on this trip on my own but am with  a group from other denominations and a group from the URC. Let me introduce the URC people to you.

Tessa is the Moderator of General Assembly and has been in this position for nearly a year.

The role is for one year only and then a new Moderator comes into place. Their role is to be a national representative of the URC at various official meetings, both ecumenical and civic. Tessa specialises is feminist theology with an emphasis on justice and liberation.

Tom, is from Southern Synod of the URC. He works for Southern in the role of Children and Youth Development Officer and he sits on the national board of the Legacies of Slavery Task Group. Tom's role in Synod is to encourage

churches to think about their work with young people and to put into action plans to reach out and involve children and young people in the life of the local and national church.

Finally Karen! Karen has organised the trip and works for the national URC as their Secretary for Global and Intercultural Ministries. I'm not sure what that exactly entails but if you speak to Karen she will let you know. Karen has been at the forefront of helping the URC to become an anti-racist church.

The photo below shows the group, together with Revd Dr Gordon Cowans and the Revd Colin Cowan.

Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
